10 Qualities of Successful Entrepreneurs
Start ‘em young!
Here’s the thing. Take a look at all the successful people and you’d notice that they have a lot of things in common. (No, I don’t mean the loads of cash or the fact that a good number of them are douchebags.) And if you have plans of joining their ranks, then you should know what those traits are and hope that you have them.
1. They have imagination.
It was Albert Einstein that said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and launched a bazillion T-shirts saying the same.
But poorly made T-shirts notwithstanding, it’s a good principle. Just ask Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Oh, you don’t know who they are? They’re just two people who imagined a better way to search the internet and then created it
2. They are never satisfied with what’s there.
Successful entrepreneurs do not rest on their laurels (even if laurels are a good place to rest in.) They are always asking how they can make things better. That ‘s how they end up improving products and getting more customers. Imagine if our ancestors were satisfied with rubbing a couple of rocks against each other to make fire. We wouldn’t have matches. And the match makers wouldn’t have made it rich.
3. They think out of the box.
You’ve probably heard of this many times already and if you’re like me, probably also wondered what the heck’s so bad about the inside of the box that everybody just wants to get out of it.
But that’s beside the point. Successful entrepreneurs do not solve problems by thinking the same way as everybody always have. They innovate. That’s how Ian Ballantine of Bantam Books Inc. ended up producing original paperback titles for mass-market release.
4. They trust their guts.
It’s not just your mom with good intuition. The successful business people do too. Going with your guts is what gave us many of this century’s advances. It’s what prompted Richard Branson to sign the Sex Pistols to Virgin Records. And while many would argue about the Pistols’ musicality, no one can doubt that they were a successful money-making enterprise and proved that punks isn’t dead!
5. They are disciplined.
They have a goal in mind – to make the business work. And they stuck to it. They didn’t waver in the face of hindrances and distractions and confidently plowed forward.
6. They kept an open mind.
What makes a successful entrepreneur? The ability to keep his mind open to all the possible business opportunities from every event or situation. They know ideas can hit at any given time and are always prepared for it.
7. They don’t put their eggs in another person’s basket.
What’s that old saying? If you want to get things done, do it yourself? Well, successful entrepreneurs know that to be true. They make sure that if there’s an idea, they act on it themselves. They set their own goals and parameters and are proactive in following their path. They don’t wait for anyone’s permission before plunging right in.
8. They stay updated.
The most successful entrepreneurs know that they have to be aware of all possible mediums to sell their products and services. These days, that means the internet. But who knows what it could be tomorrow?
9. They have strong people skills.
You cannot sell anything unless you actually go out and talk to the people who you want to buy your product. That’s the only time you can find out how to push the right buttons to make them say yes to whatever you’re offering. The most successful of entrepreneurs, therefore, have communication down to a science.
10. They are determined.
Check all the famous entrepreneurs today. Then try to find out how many failed endeavors they had before they reached the success they’re enjoying now.
Successful people are determined and won’t let failures get in the way of achieving their goals.
Successful entrepreneurs want to see the top of the world. And when they do, they want to stay there or go further. The above qualities are what makes that more than a possibility. They make success a reality.
